Childhood Survival
CADRA's childhood survival projects are saving thousands of lives in numerous impoverished African countries through low-cost, high-impact solutions.
Working closely with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and with other local partners, CADRA is helping mothers improve their children's health through nutritional, hygiene and basic health education. Our projects are curbing childhood deaths from four common diseases by providing immunizations and preventative education.
In the developing world, more than 28,000 children die every day from hunger or sickness that could have been prevented. Malnutrition is the underlying cause of half the childhood deaths in Africa. Approximately 14,000 children die every day from four common, curable illnesses - pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria and measles.
What are the main causes of childhood deaths?
Most childhood deaths stem from two common factors: extreme poverty and lack of basic health knowledge. Poverty often leads to hunger, hunger to sickness, and sickness to death.
CADRA's childhood projects are teaching mothers good hygiene habits as well as the importance of breastfeeding. And mothers are learning how to prepare low-cost nutritious meals. Our projects are saving lives and creating healthy communities in some of Africa's poorest communities.
